The Basics

Given the Indo-Western style of our clothes, we wanted our logo to capture the fusion of eastern and western cultures. The font superimposes English letters of "Saffron Lane" over the phonetic spelling of the corresponding Hindi characters of our brand name.

The Nehru Vest, also called a "Bandi" in India, is named after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was a key figure in India's independence movement and the first Prime Minister of India. The garment was designed in India in the 1940s, when it became the formal wear of choice for North Indian men of high social stature. Post Independence, it became a permanent fixture in every Indian man's wardrobe. Fun Fact: It was briefly popularized in the U.S. during the 1960s by the Beatles.

The Bandhgala ("Closed Neck Coat") traces its origins to the time of British rule in India. Akin to the western blazer, this ‘prince coat’ has become the modern Indian man's go-to for both formal and semi-formal events.

Style Concierge

Saffron Lane’s Style Concierge offers how-to-wear tips for all our styles on each product page, including what to wear our styles with and to what events, but we know that it might not answer all your questions. Sizing & Care

Please reference the sizing guides on each product page (or here) to help you find the closest fit. Note that measurements in the sizing guides represent actual body dimensions so we recommend you measure your body and not other clothes/jackets as that may cause some variances. There are also slight differences in measurements between Nehru Vests and Bandhgalas, so please reference the sizing chart that matches your garment type.

Although we hope one of our sizes will fit you like a glove, it is possible you may like some alterations for that perfect fit. All our garments are constructed with extra material in the margins to allow you to work with your local tailor to adjust the fit as necessary. In our experience, most alterations are typically light and easily handled by most tailors within 2-3 days. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer free alterations at this time but we hope that our competitive pricing and free shipping will help make room for some light alterations if necessary.

At this time we do not offer made-to-order tailoring for individual orders. However, if you have a custom request for a wedding or a large/bulk order, please email us at info@saffronlaneco.com to discuss possible options.

All our garments are dry clean only.
